Statistics show that over 160 million cups of tea are consumed each day. This just goes to show that people like the taste of tea, but what about the health benefits of the same tea you drink everyday? Many of us have heard the benefits of drinking green tea, and this tea is now available with many different twists to it also, such as a splash of citrus or other fruit flavoring. But this still doesn’t answer my question about regular tea that you make and drink at home. So what are the benefits of drinking tea? Some benefits of drinking tea include: Tea contains less caffeine than coffee which usually has three times the amount of caffeine as tea. Did you know that one cup of coffee contains approximately 130 mg of caffeine? The same size cup of tea contains approximately 40 mg of caffeine. This should make you want to switch to tea, but if not keep reading. Tea can reduce the risk of stroke and even heart attack. This because tea will help keep your arteries clog free, think of it as though you have a clogged sink drain and you use a cleaner to remove that clog. That is the same affect tea has on your body. Still need more information to convince you to switch? Tea helps with your pearly whites. Yes, this is true. This is due to the fluoride and tannins contained in tea which help with the plaque away. The more sugar you add to your tea the more you harm you teeth, so you should drink unsweetened tea whenever possible. This along with regular brushing and flossing will help your teeth and gums. Tea contains no calories. If you have a glass of unsweetened tea with or with out a meal, you are taking in zero calories. How is that possible? Well tea is natural, consisting of water and tea leaves. When blended together you still have zero extra calories going into your body. This helps get you closer to switching, right? If not I have a few more that may blow you away a help you think tea. Tea helps with stronger bones in the same aspect as milk. For many people who can’t drink milk due to being lactose intolerant, or just simply don’t like milk, now have the option to drink tea and still have healthy bones. Do you still need more? If so I have one more that will make you switch today. Tea has antioxidants. Plain and simple, tea can help strengthen your immune system and help fight cancer. Who knew tea could do all this? With all the benefits of tea that have been listed here and others that I have failed to mention, why not put down the cup of coffee and grab a cup of tea? Keep in mind that coffee has little to no benefits and causes stains on your teeth, bad breath, and can even cause indigestion, headache, and heartburn. If I can name five reasons coffee is not healthy and six or more reasons tea is healthy then why not switch? I used to drink a cup of coffee everyday on my way to work and at least three more before lunch. When I found all the information on tea, I made the switch. I not only feel better when I get to work, I don’t have to worry about drinking more and more coffee to stay alert and do my job. The choice is yours, but if I were you I would switch today.
